Frequently Asked Questions
Aramis II- Collagen remodeling
How does it work?
The laser light passes through the skin into the dermal layer without damaging the surface of the skin. This stimulates the layers of collagen (the supporting structure of the skin), giving the skin a younger, fresher look, with wrinkles and fine lines reduced and softened.
What areas can be treated?
All parts of the body can be treated except the area immediately around the eye.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the area being treated. Generally it will take 25 minutes to treat a full face.
Is it painful?
The Aramis II procedure is generally well tolerated by most patients. Occasionally patients may feel a sharp pin-prick discomfort and we adjust our energy levels to reduce this.
How many treatments are required?
Generally 4-5 treatments once a month are required.
What results can I expect?
Production of new collagen is a natural process, occurring over time. Therefore improvement will not be immediately noticeable. Changes will be gradual and should become noticeable after the second to third treatment.
Is it permanent?
The improvement should stabilize after about 12 months. Maintenance sessions are recommended every six months to maintain result.
Chemical Peels
How does it work?
Peels take away dead skin cells and compel the generation of new skin, thus improving fine lines & wrinkles, sun spots, mild scarring, and acne.
How long does the procedure take?
Generally a typical treatment will take 15 minutes, depending on what chemical peel is used.
Is it painful?
Upon application, patients feel a slight stinging which subsides after a few minutes.
What results can I expect?
Facial peels remove the outer “dead” layers of the skin or epidermis. You will gradually notice reduced fine lines and smoothness of the skin.
Are there any risks with chemical peels?
Complications from superficial peeling agents are rare. The most common side effects may include persistent erythema, irritation and increased sensitivity.
How many treatments are required?
Depending on the desired result, each chemical peel treats different areas. Generally, 4-6 treatments with any chemical peel, once a month will give a desired result.
Can I combine a peel with a microdermabrasion?
This is by far the most effective way to improve your skin’s appearance. The micropeel will further break down the cell walls to further penetrate nutrients and moisturizers into the skin.
Mediostar XT- Laser Hair Reduction
How does hair removal work?
A pulse of laser light penetrates into the skin and delivers the energy at the root of the hair, destroying the hair follicle while protecting the surrounding skin.
What areas can be treated?
All areas of the body can be treated, except around the eyes.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the area being treated. It will take typically up to 15 minutes to treat the underarms and up to an hour for legs.
Is it painful?
While some areas can be more sensitive than others, most individuals describe the feeling as a slight stinging or tingling sensation. If needed, clients can also request a topical anesthetic to be applied prior to treatment.
How many treatments are required?
Hair grows in multiple cycles, therefore, several treatments are necessary. The number of treatments depends on type of hair and location, roughly 5-8 treatments. Treatments are usually performed 4-8 weeks apart.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are minimal and are generally limited to a slight redness of the skin which should not persist for more than a few hours.
Do you have to shave prior to treatment?
The area of treatment needs to be shaved, no plucking or tweezing.
Is it permanent?
Clinical studies have demonstrated a permanent reduction in hair numbers after each treatment. However, there are variables such as hormones, medication, ethnicity, metabolism and certain genetic factors that may affect permanent hair reduction.
Intense Pulse Light- Vascular & pigmented lesions
How does it work?
The intense pulsed light emits wavelengths that are absorbed by vascular and pigmented lesions in multiple levels of the skin. When the broad band light is absorbed by melanin (brown spots) and hemoglobin (veins/red spots), the lesions are gently heated and destroyed.
What areas can be treated?
The Prolite II skin rejuvenation procedure can be performed on the face, neck, decolletage, & hands.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the area being treated. It typically takes 25-30 minutes to treat the entire face. Make up may be applied following treatment.
Is it painful?
You will experience a slight sensation as the pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is very mild and easily tolerated. Topical creams are not required but are available for individuals who wish to numb the skin.
How many treatments are required?
A series of four treatments is required for optimum result. Each treatment takes less than one hour to perform. Treatments are scheduled once a month. Maintenance treatments are required every 6-12 months to maintain result.
What results can I expect?
Visible signs of aging and sun damage will be significantly reduced. There is an overall improvement in skin texture and tone.
Are there any side effects?
The vascular and pigmented lesions will be darker in appearance for 5-7 days. This procedure works well when followed with a microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion
How does it work?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure in which very fine, sterile crystals are sprayed across the surface of the skin. They gently abrade away the dry and damaged surface cell layers, leaving the skin smoother and more vibrant.
What areas can be treated?
Microdermabrasion can be performed on your face, but also on your hands, chest and even on areas where rough skin is prevalent, such as elbows, knees, and heels.
What results can I expect?
Age spots and fine lines are reduced, pores are unclogged, acne is diminished, collagen is stimulated and a more uniform tone is evident. Most clients report that their skin seems softer, tighter, smoother and younger-looking.
How soon will I see results?
You will notice an immediate improvement after your first treatment. Your skin will have a fresh glow and smoother texture. Improvements continue throughout your treatment program.
How long does the procedure take?
Generally a procedure will last 15 minutes. Treatments are provided in a series of sessions, usually at 1-2 week intervals. Treatments are provided in a series of sessions, usually at one to two week intervals.
Is it painful?
The procedure is very gentle. The skin will feel taught as the tip is pressed against it, with a mild tingling sensation.
Can microdermabrasion be combined with other treatments?
Microdermabrasion is a useful skin care technique which can be used alone or combined with other procedures, such as; IPL, Aramis, Omnilux, and chemical peels.
Viridis - Spider Veins
How does it work?
The laser light is absorbed by hemoglobin, light pulses are delivered to the vein, causing the vessel to coagulate and subsequently be absorbed by the body.
What areas can be treated?
All areas of the body can be treated. Most commonly performed treatments are on the face and legs.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the area and size of the vessel. Generally, it take 15 minutes per area.
Is it painful?
Anesthesia is not required. The only effect is a hot and tingling sensation that is well tolerated.
What results can I expect?
Most people describe laser vein treatment as feeling like the snap of a rubber band against the skin. After treatment, you can immediately return to normal activities, so long as strenuous activity is avoided for a few days.
How many treatments are required?
Typically 2 to 3 treatments are required and should be performed every 6-8 weeks. Some veins may disappear after a single treatment while others may take longer, however, patient dependence is highly important.
