What is Lipodissolve and Mesotherapy?

Lipodissolve therapy (or mesotherapy) is a new cosmetic procedure that involves injections of medications into small areas of unwanted body fat.  Lipodissolve can be performed in the office, as no anethesia is required.  Mesothereapy has other applications including reduction of cellulite and skin tightening.  The mixture of medications causes the fat cells to release  their fat deposits.  The fat is then absorbed into the bloodstream and ultimately removed through the kidneys and/or liver.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lipodissolve:

Q) What is Lipodissolve?

A) LIPODISSOLVE® micro-injections describe a non-surgical medical procedure for localised fat reduction, cellulite treatment and skin retraction. The concept of fat-reduction by injections was initially discovered in Italy in the early 1980's.

Q) What can the Lipodissolve therapy offer?

A) The therapy includes the use of a mild combination of medications to dissolve the fat in localised areas of the body or face. LIPODISSOLVE® is a gentle and gradual procedure aimed to provide cosmetic results in a matter of weeks.

Q) Can Lipodissolve be used for lower eye fat?

A) Yes, lipodissolve can reduce lower eye fat pad with natural results. We only recommend surgeons familiar with the anatomy of the musculature and underlying structure of the face/eye to do lipodissolve for eye fat pad removal. This is important for accurate evaluation and to avoid possible complications from wrong injection technique.

Q) How consistent are the cosmetic results?

A) Many doctors have reported excellent cosmetic results from Lipodissolve, often equal to surgery. Results from therapy is predictable when the protocol for treatment, injection techniques, medical supplies, patient evaluation and aftercare is well followed. Alteration in these can diminish the cosmetic effect, and some physicians prefer to follow their own method of treatment.

Q) Is Lipodissolve supported by research?
A) Yes. The therapy is supported by clinical research studies in Europe and the USA. LIPODISSOLVE® is, without doubt, the cosmetic procedure of the future. Studies from 2003 noted a failure rate of less than 4% within four sessions and this was reduced to less than 1% in 2004. 80% of patients had satisfactory results in only two sessions.

Q) Does Lipodissolve replace surgery?

A) Both yes and no. Lipodissolve cannot replace dramatic surgical procedures, but on the right body type with small to medium fat deposits, Lipodissolve can replace surgery and often accomplish good results without extensive downtime and the complications possible with surgery.

Q) Does Lipodissolve replace surgery?

A) LIPODISSOLVE® is suitable for small to medium fat deposits for patients preferrably with soft or 'liquidy' fat constitution. Lipodissolve has limited cosmetic results on large volumes of fat and is not a suitable therapy on obese body types. Lipodissolve cannot be used as a weight loss therapy and often shows insignificant reduction in actual weight even if a patient shows considerable losses in centimetres around the waistline. Lipodissolve may also show poor or no results on candidates with metabolic or thyroid disorders, on fat combined with binding tissue, or certain candidates with generic fat deposits. As with any cosmetic treatment, whether surgical or nonsurgical, a proper pre-evaluation is essential when selecting the right candidate for treatment. Lipodissolve does not provide instant results.

Q) Is the procedure safe?

A) LIPODISSOLVE® is extremely promising from a safety aspect. As of 2005, with thousands of procedures performed, there have been no reports of adverse complications or permanent or life-threatening side-effects from the therapy. Studies and continued monitoring of effects supports a stable safety data of this procedure and long-term studies are needed. Rare, but possible risks can include adverse allergic reactions against the medications used.

Lipodissolve safety data should not be confused with other procedures for fat reduction where medications that pose high risks are used. Lipodissolve contains a standardised mixture of 4-5 pharmaceutical agents, and when used in accordance to treatment protocol without alterations, by a licensed physician, have shown a stable safety report.
