Swedish Massage
A classic western massage technique combining kneading along with long smooth strokes to improve circulation, relax and loosen muscles. Even though the pressure is relatively light, this treatment has therapeutic benefits including increased blood flow, increased muscle tone, improved oxygenation to the muscles, and of course, relaxation.
Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage that releases the tension in the body by using slow, deep strokes pressed across the muscle fiber. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. This massage loosens muscle tissues, releases toxins from muscles and helps circulate blood and oxygen in the muscles.
Shiatsu
A form of Japanese pressure point massage. Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning "finger pressure." A shiatsu massage may incorporate not only finger pressure, but also pressure by the therapists thumbs, palms, forearms and elbows. Pressure is applied to areas of energy lines (known as "meridians") to promote good health by stimulating the bodies of energy flow.
Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the belief that ones feet and hands are maps or mirrors of the body. By focusing on and attending to parts of the feet the corresponding area of the body is then receiving the treatment.
Hot Stone
Hot Stone Massage is the basic name given to a variety of massages done with warm stones. The stones are selectively placed on areas of the body that need releasing. The variations include massaging other areas of the body with other stones at the same time as well as the incorporation of cold stones within the treatment.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, torelieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stess and tension which builds up in the body's soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively.
